Frequently Asked Questions

The following are some Frequently Asked Questions regarding The Keys.

I understand there is more to this than just listening to Maharaji’s talks. Tell me more.

Maharaji offers a practical way to find peace within in the form of four techniques called Knowledge.

If I am interested in these techniques, what can I do next?

In order to truly understand what is being offered, and to make a clear, well-informed decision about whether or not you want to learn these techniques, a preparation process has been developed called “The Keys.” These videos are designed to answer fundamental questions about Maharaji, and the process of receiving and practicing Knowledge. Each Key focuses on a key point of understanding.

What are The Keys?

The Keys are a series of videos designed to help someone prepare for Knowledge and practise it in their lives thereafter.

There are six Keys in total. Each one represents a key point in the process of preparation, allowing a person to deepen their understanding. The first five Keys each contain a video presentation where Maharaji addresses the viewer directly; and supporting video material, taken from his worldwide talks.

Key Six is shown in a special, one-off session. Anyone who has gone through the five preceding Keys and wishes to attend a Key Six session may request an invitation. These sessions take place throughout the year all over the world.

The entire program is self-paced.

What if I am interested, but not sure if I want to begin the Keys process?

There is no obligation to start or complete the Keys process, and there are a variety of ways to hear more. Videos of Maharaji’s addresses are always free to watch. There are also a variety of articles and downloads to enjoy.

If and when you become interested in watching the Keys, they will always be available to you.

Do I have to change my lifestyle in any way to pursue this?

No. Practicing Knowledge is independent of a person’s lifestyle, religion or beliefs. There are no rules and no dos or don’ts.

Will I be asked to join something?

No, there isn’t anything to join. The techniques of Knowledge are intended to connect you with yourself. It’s a personal, private practice and — while you may know or befriend other people who have received Knowledge — there is no group, movement, or organization to join.

Does this have something to do with religion?

No. The practice of Knowledge is independent of but also compatible with any religion. There is nothing to worship and no system of faith or belief associated with this practice.

Will anything be asked of me if I decide to pursue this?

People who wish to pursue Knowledge are asked to carefully consider what is being offered, to develop their own understanding and to decide for themselves if it is something they truly want.

To prepare to learn the techniques of Knowledge, people must be at least 18 years old and of legal age in their country. They must also be willing to agree to the terms and conditions of the Keys.

In Key Six, during the session where the techniques of Knowledge are taught, Maharaji asks for three promises: to give the practice of Knowledge a fair chance; to keep in touch with him for inspiration and guidance; and not to reveal the techniques to anyone so that each interested individual has their own chance to go through the preparation process. Read what Maharaji has said about these three promises.

Are these techniques difficult to learn?

No. They are simple, easy to learn, and can be practiced by anyone.

Will I have to practice this every day?

To reap the fruits of Knowledge requires commitment and a sustained effort. It is recommended to practice these techniques at least one hour each day.

What is Maharaji’s role during the preparation process and afterwards?

Maharaji is a teacher who reminds people of a fundamental possibility: the possibility of knowing who we really are and of experiencing inner peace, regardless of circumstances. He offers inspiration, guidance and teaching throughout the preparation process, after a person receives the techniques of Knowledge and throughout their lives.

Can you give me more background on Prem Rawat or Maharaji, as he is also known?

You can read more about Prem Rawat’s life and work here.

How can I find out more about what Maharaji offers?

Maharaji offers a direct way to experience the essence of who we really are and, through that, inner peace — not in words, not as an idea, not as a feeling that’s created, but as an experience that already exists within, waiting to be tapped. He teaches four simple techniques which he calls Knowledge, or knowledge of the self, through which we may uncover peace and fulfillment within. To learn more, it may be helpful to watch “An Introduction to the Keys.”

I feel ready to learn the techniques of Knowledge. Do I still need to watch the Keys?

Yes. These videos have been designed not only to answer any questions you may have but to prepare you for Knowledge as a lifelong practice. Even if you feel ready to receive the techniques, it’s important to give yourself the time and space needed to truly understand what’s being offered. Remember: this experience is already within you, and cannot be gained or lost. Take time to enjoy the process of rediscovery.

What resources are available to people interested in finding out more or who are in The Keys process?

Videos of his addresses are available to view online, and broadcasts of the show Words of Peace are available on cable or satellite television around the world. Downloads are also available.

Do I need to watch all the videos that come with each Key?

Each Key begins with a special video presentation by Maharaji followed by supporting videos taken from his talks. Some of these are optional, while some are required before you can move onto the next Key. Required viewing material has been carefully chosen to effectively answer each Key’s specific question.

The process of watching the Keys isn’t intended to be a race toward an end goal. Rather, it’s a journey of exploration and understanding; the reward is to listen and to grow. You might find that it’s more fulfilling to watch all of the materials provided, or to view some videos more than once.

While you are free to proceed at your own pace, you must watch all the required material before moving to the next Key. This is so you can enjoy the maximum benefit of each step.

Why are people asked to watch the Keys for no more than two hours a day?

Any learning process requires time to absorb information: to think about or question what has been said. Keep a healthy balance to your daily routine. Understanding can’t be reached in a day.

If my progress in watching the Keys is interrupted, say for a month or six weeks, do I have to start again?

Maharaji addresses this topic in the video, “An Introduction to the Keys.” The Keys are intended to be a consistent, ongoing learning experience. If interrupted, it’s necessary and beneficial to begin the process again.

How do I ask for the techniques of Knowledge?

When you have watched the first five Keys and are clear you would like to proceed, you may send a request to Maharaji to learn the techniques of Knowledge. Instructions for how to do this are provided in Key Five.

If I have questions about the process or content of the Keys, is there someone I can call?

You can submit questions or comments via the Helpdesk.

Inspiration, insights and other information about preparing for Knowledge can be found throughout the Keys videos as well as other materials on wopg.org.

Is there a way to give feedback about the Keys process?

Inside each Key set there is a leaflet that explains how to send comments or feedback. You may also give feedback online or speak with an assistant by telephone. A number will be included in the leaflet.
