The blue Atlantic waves off the beaches of Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) have always been a welcome sight for those visiting this part of Africa’s tropical region. Consequently, it has remained an attractive holiday destination for tourists, many of whom make the long journey from France, its former colonial ruler.

More than half of the population is currently employed in agriculture, making the country one of the world's leading pineapple, coffee, and cocoa producers. Despite the ongoing political instability and wars that continue to hinder its growth, the country’s 20 million citizens remain true to a culture that emphasizes the enjoyment of life. Ready smiles and brightly-colored clothing are evident everywhere.

Celebrating diversity

“Prem Rawat’s message of peace is embraced with open arms in Côte d'Ivoire,” said Francis Ahore of Ghana. Francis, who helped with this article, has worked with the people in Côte d'Ivoire who are interested in letting people know about Prem Rawat. “It is natural for the villagers in Côte d'Ivoire to celebrate diversity, and they embrace all good messages with love and compassion,” he reports.

Christine Sanogo and Zéhi Etienne. “This summer we traveled for a month to various villages and towns in Côte d’Ivoire. Our focus was introducing Prem Rawat’s message to little villages, as well as bringing inspiration to those who have already received his gift of Knowledge,” Francis says. “Most memorable to me is a small village, Ery-Makouguié, where they show Words of Peace videos every Sunday after the church service.

“It was simply amazing,” Francis continues. “After the church service was over, they removed everything from the table and placed a TV, a DVD player, and a sound system there. Soon Prem Rawat’s voice began to resonate through this simple temporary chapel. Within minutes, the atmosphere changed, silence took over, and a sweet, wonderful feeling started floating in the air. In that moment, I understood what passion and simplicity can do. People from different religions and ethnic groups come together and enjoy listening. They love the message.”

The tour of the Village Team was attended by almost 2,000 people. And now, 81 Ivoirians are watching videos of his talks (The Keys) to learn more about the possibility of peace within.
