Sometimes all it takes is a little initiative and ingenuity to make a world of change. At least that seems to be the attitude of Becky Straw, one of two people responsible for founding The Adventure Project.

It all began when — frustrated with the unsustainable and shortsighted efforts of many charities — Becky realized that poverty could only be relieved if we reinvented the way we give. Charity shouldn't be short-term. It should empower the people that receive it so that every dollar spent creates a long-term effect.

The Adventure Project's vision closely matches that of The Prem Rawat Foundation, which works to promote dignity, peace and prosperity by spearheading innovative programs such as Food for People and supporting a wide variety of projects that provide the essentials of clean water and nutritious food. That's why they've teamed up to alleviate one of the world's greatest problems: lack of clean water.

Together they engaged 100 bloggers in what they call a TypeTAP campaign: on March 22, bloggers asked their readers to give $20 USD to help some of the world's poorest. If $10,000 USD were raised over 24 hours, TPRF would then match these contributions. Luckily they exceeded their goal, raising a total of $11,595 USD. With TPRF adding $10,000, countless of the neediest in India will soon have the help they need.

All funds collected go to WaterAid, a charity that takes a unique approach to providing the poorest communities with potable water. Rather than building and abandoning wells that would quickly fall into disrepair, WaterAid equips and trains villagers to repair water sources across their region. More unique still, they strive to educate women so that they can become economically independent participants in what are often conservatively traditional communities.

  1. This is so fantastic...well done to you all. Wonderful too that the people you are helping are involved and are contributing to what is being given, it will make all the difference to their lives and they will know that they could not have done it without you and you could not have done it without them. My wish is that all war torn countries would put the amazing effort they put into destruction into construction of a beautiful life and planet. I believe you are showing people the way to living from the heart. Thank you.
  2. Lives are being saved by relieving thirst.Well done TPRF to help people in emwrgency . To hear such tings is a joy and to feel is real joy. I thank this Co. to do better any one done earlier.
  3. I love the commonsense approach, with the ripple effect of imbibing people to maintain their supply of water, they in turn can teach others the same, thereby spreading the donations even further. It is wonderful to see such positive news about the caring of one to the other.
  4. Way to go! TPRF rocks!
